VI Group Strengthens China Team
Recently, VI Group has strengthened its on-the-ground team in China to better support local connections. This is significant for us because it means that VI Group not only understands projects and industries locally in Australia but can also establish connections more efficiently and authentically with investors, industry players, and Chinese companies expanding overseas here in China.
Cross-border mining cooperation is never easy. On the surface, it involves connecting projects, capital, and opportunities. However, what truly determines whether cooperation can move forward often comes down to more specific judgments, more effective communication, and a genuine understanding of the decision-making logic and realities on both sides.
It is precisely for this reason that we want to formally introduce the core members of our China team to everyone.
Neil Purcell – Head of Strategic Relations

Neil has a background in finance and accounting, starting his career at BHP, where he accumulated extensive experience in investment evaluation, corporate strategy, business development, and commercial negotiations. He has participated in and led numerous projects and transactions across different mineral types and stages, with project scales ranging from US$50 million to over US$10 billion.
Beyond his transaction and investment experience, Neil’s more prominent value lies in his deep understanding of the most critical and often underestimated aspects of advancing mining projects in Australia. Particularly in areas like building relationships with Australian communities and engaging with Aboriginal communities, he has established strong trust and reputation locally over a long period and serves on the board of relevant Aboriginal community organizations. This experience is not just theoretical “understanding” but stems from long-term, genuine involvement.
This is extremely important for mining investment and project advancement. Many people first see resource endowments, valuations, and transaction structures. However, what truly determines whether a project can proceed smoothly often includes community relations, permits, trust, and long-term cooperation mechanisms. Neil’s experience in these areas gives us a more grounded judgment regarding the practical logic of advancing Australian mining projects. It also enables us to help partners identify key issues earlier and advance cooperation more effectively.
Dr. Lily – Head of International Partnership

Dr. Lily graduated from the School of Minerals and Energy Resources Engineering at the University of New South Wales. She has long focused on geomechanics and geohazard modeling and possesses solid experience in mining technical consulting and international collaboration. She previously worked at the renowned Australian consulting firm Mining One and was involved in front-line mine operations at Glencore’s Mount Isa Mine, leading multiple pre-feasibility studies, feasibility studies, and complex numerical modeling projects.
Dr. Lily’s strength lies not only in her solid technical background but also in her ability to apply her professional expertise within the practical context of Australia-China cooperation. Beyond her project and technical work experience, she has long participated in initiatives related to talent development, academic exchange, and the growth of young engineers between Australia and China. In driving cooperation, she understands not just the technology itself, but also the differences in talent, communication styles, and collaborative needs arising from different backgrounds.
This enables her to play a crucial role within the China team. The difficulty in many cross-border cooperations isn’t a lack of ideas, but rather a shortage of people who can genuinely integrate expertise, communication, and execution. Dr. Lily’s experience in this regard helps turn many concepts that might otherwise remain abstract into more concrete and achievable plans.
The purpose of our China team is not to tell better stories, but to do things more pragmatically and thoroughly.
Moving forward, we aim to provide more robust support to investors and companies expanding overseas – helping them find good projects, win good projects, and operate good projects successfully. Ultimately, finding projects relies on judgment, winning projects relies on capability, and operating projects relies on long-term execution. Each step is challenging, but precisely because of these challenges, having a team that truly understands the industry and can drive things forward is all the more essential. Looking ahead, VI Group humbly looks forward to progressing hand in hand with you!
